Dreams For Kids
“Replacing Charity with Opportunity”
The biggest issue facing at-risk youth today is that people don’t realize how many at-risk youth there are out in the world today. At-risk youth is defined as children of poverty, disability, single parents, veterans, and affluence. The shocking facts are that 1 out of every 2 children alive today are at-risk. They need our help.
Our dream is to change the lives of these children. It all began with a few inspiring people who have seen the effects of what a helping hand can do to change the lives of children everywhere. Dreams for Kids since 1989, has built an organization that provides these children with the opportunity to better not only their lives, but also the lives of others.
This has been achieved through the various programs that Dreams for Kids has implemented. Our first program, Holiday for Hope is the largest holiday event of its kind in the world and bringing 1,500 homeless and severely at-risk children to one location in Illinois on one day in December and over 6,000 worldwide. Another inspiring program is Extreme Recess, which gives children ages 4-24 with physical and developmental challenges the opportunity to participate in sports, often for the very first time. This adaptive sports program has changed the lives of not only the children but also their families. Lastly, our Dream Leaders program is a unique program where youth work together on social initiatives, while uniting their peers and those with disabilities at the same time. Dream Leaders provide the opportunity to help others who are less fortunate. In turn, they develop their own leadership and entrepreneurial skills, while discovering social issues that bring purpose and meaning to their lives. These programs are the heart of Dreams for Kids and have so much to offer individuals in need.
