Dreams for Kids replaces charity with opportunity for at-risk youth. This is made possible through the programs the organization has created. The best way to help the issues facing these children is to provide them with opportunities to make a difference in people’s lives and we do just that. Our programs, Dream Leaders, Holiday for Hope, and Extreme Recess give at-risk youth a chance at things they never thought possible. They offer not only an opportunity to make a difference but also a hope for a brighter future.
The Dream Leaders program provides a platform to bring youth together for local and global social projects. From all backgrounds and socioeconomic areas, Dream Leaders are youth who work together on social initiatives, while uniting their peers and those with disabilities at the same time. Dream Leaders provide the opportunity to help others who are less fortunate. In turn, they develop their own leadership and entrepreneurial skills, while discovering social issues that bring purpose and meaning to their lives.
Extreme Recess gives children with physical and developmental challenges the opportunity to participate in sports, often for the very first time. In the year 2000 Dreams for Kids realized that there were no organized sports in Illinois for kids with disabilities. We partnered with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and created a summer sports program for kids with disabilities.
Holiday for Hope
Please join our Holiday for Hope celebration each year in December, as we bring children together to celebrate life, each other, and hope for a new year better than the last. Holiday for Hope is the largest holiday event of its kind in the world and brings over 1,500 homeless and severely at-risk children to one location in Illinois on one day each December and over 6,000 worldwide.
